can I base multiple pivots from one olap connection in excel 2010?

Hi. I have multiple pivot tables in one spreadsheet that are looking at the same view in my sql server database using an olap connection.

When I refresh the spreadsheet it takes about 7 minutes to update as each table is pulling the data fresh from the server.

Is it possible to link multiple pivots to the one olap connection to speed up the refresh?

I know this is possible if the data is in excel. But when creating an olap cube it doesn't give me the option to base it on a different pivot table.

I can't pull all the data into Excel as it contains hundreds of thousands of rows

Hoping someone can help me out.

Hi, l_jg!

First of all welcome to Chandoo's website Excel forums. Thank you for your joining us and glad to have you here.

As a starting point I'd recommend you to read the green sticky topics at this forums main page. There you'll find general guidelines about how this site and community operates (introducing yourself, posting files, netiquette rules, and so on).

Among them you're prompted to perform searches within this site before posting, because maybe your question had been answered yet.

Feel free to play with different keywords so as to be led thru a wide variety of articles and posts, and if you don't find anything that solves your problem or guides you towards a solution, you'll always be welcome back here. Tell us what you've done, consider uploading a sample file as recommended, and somebody surely will read your post and help you.

And about your question...

If you haven't performed yet the search herein, try going to the topmost right zone of this page (Custom Search), type the keywords used in Tags field when creating the topic or other proper words and press Search button. You'd retrieve many links from this website, like the following one(s) -if any posted below-, maybe you find useful information and even the solution. If not please advise so as people who read it could get back to you as soon as possible.

If nothing found (as I guess it'd be), perhaps these links may help but I doubt:

Thanks SirJB7, I've looked on the forum and on the web generally to find an answer before posting my question, but unfortunately I can't find one!

There are a few pages describing the problems with doing multiple pivots but none describing how to do it... perhaps I'm missing something and it's really simple in the set up of the pivot, but it's escaping me just now.

I've been a frequent searcher of this site over the past year and have found a wealth of information on my other Excel problems already :)

Hi, l_jg!

Don't worry, I'd be facing the same issue if I were you.

Regards!

PS: Well, that isn't a great consolation :)
