Can I avoid hitting F2 Enter for a copied date to take the right format ?

Sometimes when I paste columns with dates on them, they do not take the right format. But when I hit F2 and <Enter>, the dates change to the right format !

Painting the desired date format on the columns after pasting doesn't help, nor does pre-formatting the columns before pasting.

When I have a lots of dates, the F2 + <Enter> business gets old pretty soon !

Any solutions ?

Here is something that I do when importing dates. I just paste the entire column of dates in a notepad file. Then copy them again and paste them in excel using "text to columns" tool. Now, during the import process, you can specify the data type as "date" and tell the format "YMD/DMY/MDY etc.". When you finish the import, excel neatly formats the dates.

If you do this very often, you can even write a macro to zip thru the text to columns import process.
