Adding series to Interactive Network Chart

LMB

New Member
Hi.

I am trying to recreate the Interactive Network Chart at http://chandoo.org/wp/2014/08/13/network-relationship-chart/ which is exactly what we need. However, I need to expand it to include 25 people on the chart.
I have modified the downloadable 2010 file available at the above link (thanks for sharing it), but cannot quite get it right. Data for the last five 'people' I added (U, V, W, X and Y) are not displaying correctly.
It appears that only the connections for Ash to these new five are working; Billy, Cynthia etc only connect to them via the highlight.strong or highlight.weak series.
If someone can spot my probably obvious mistake in the attached file, that would be wonderful.

Thanks

Hi ,

I have not gone through the blog post or your workbook in detail , so I may be wrong. If so , please let me know.

I changed the definition of the named range lst.names.pivot to include all the names.

See the uploaded file.

Thanks Narayan,

I had done that (and added rows and columns to each table, and adjusted all the names I could see)...

Hi ,

From your post I am not able to conclude anything !

1. Is your problem resolved or not ?

2. Is what I mentioned right or wrong ?

You say :
I had done that (and added rows and columns to each table, and adjusted all the names I could see)...
Was this before or after my post ?

The file you have uploaded in your initial post has the following definition for the named range in question :

='Data & Calc'!$B$4:$C$29

Is this right or wrong ?

Can you clarify ?

Narayan

Sorry Narayan - I wasn't clear. ='Data & Calc'!$B$4:$C$29 is what the named range was in my original file and I had not changed it as I thought it included all the names, and must have overlooked the change you made in the file you sent me.
I then looked more closely at your file and noticed that the change you made seems not to have altered anything on the chart. However, the pivot table is now highlighting the problem - the last columns of the pivot table seem not to be picking up all the data from the data table above. But I can't work out why.

[I have since gone back to the original file (at the URL mentioned in my first post) and notice that the 1st.names.pivot was:
=OFFSET('Data & Calc'!$B$4,,,'Data & Calc'!$Z$10+1,2)
I changed it to be =OFFSET('Data & Calc'!$B$4,,,'Data & Calc'!$AE$10+1,2) (to adjust for the 10 new columns I added to the data tables) which then, I think, is equivalent to ='Data & Calc'!$B$4:$C$29 which is what I had originally.
None of this seems to have changed the appearance of the chart (not sure if I had to refresh data, but I did just to be sure!)]

Any thoughts? Thanks lots! Lee

Hi Lee ,

I just checked the chart series , and they all end on row 44 , with one sample series being :

='Data & Calc'!$AG$5:$AG$44

='Data & Calc'!$AH$5:$AH$44

However , in your file , you have added extra rows till row 54 , but your series remain the same :

='Data & Calc'!$AL$5:$AL$44

='Data & Calc'!$AM$5:$AM$44

Shouldn't this extend to row 54 ?

Narayan

Thank you so much Narayan for your time and fresh eyes. I extended the series as you indicated and it all works now (file attached). I had changed those series in various versions, and indeed in this one I though, but I don't seem to save the changes very well (forget to press OK before going on to the next one). Thanks for picking it up. Much appreciated.

Lee
