Preview the data after importing

Not that I'm aware of. Normally, I don't recommend loading data directly from PowerPivot wizard. Always go through PowerQuery/Get & Transform and perform all your data transformation there, and then load to data model.
 
PowerQuery is the tool for data transformation and clean up. Then PowerPivot is used for modeling and analysis.

It's always best to ensure proper data type and format before data is loaded to model.

Yes, though in version 2010 this is very hard to achieve and officially not supported by MS. But a charm in later versions...
