I don’t remember when was the last time both of us (Jo and I) were this excited. And the reason?

Nakshatra and Nishanth have started taking their first steps last week !!!

It is such a joy watching them take one step at a time. Aah, the beauty of parenting 🙂

So I asked myself, “What is a good way to celebrate this without looking like a super-excited dad?” and I got my answer in 72 milli-seconds.

I have created 10 short (<10 min) videos helping you to take baby steps in Excel world. Each video introduces you to one new functionality of Excel and shows you some nice examples.

Before jumping straight in to the videos, I want to share a short clip (30 seconds) of our kids taking their baby steps.

[Watch the video clip on Chandoo.org]

Look at them, although, they are scared and probably worried, they look so happy extending the leg in to unknown. If only we kept that curiosity until we get really old…,

The Excel Tutorials:

I have neatly structured all the videos in Excel Tutorial page.

You can learn the following topics from there,

  1. Introduction to Microsoft Excel
  2. Formatting Data in Excel – Basics
  3. How to Make a Chart in Excel?
  4. Writing Simple Formulas in Excel
  5. Introduction Conditional Formatting in Excel
  6. Introduction to Excel Tables
  7. Introduction to Excel Pivot Tables
  8. Using Excel Productively – Keyboard Shortcuts
  9. Printing Your Workbooks
  10. 10 Things you can do in Excel under 10 Minutes

How to get the most out of these videos:

  • Start with first one and slowly graduate to next steps. No need to hurry, just take one step at a time.
  • Keep Excel open and play as you go along.
  • Pause wherever you want, repeat some steps until you are clear
  • Follow the links beneath the video for more juicy and exciting stuff
  • Don’t worry if you fall down or didn’t understand something. It is bound to happen, the sooner you fall, the faster you learn.

Spread the word:

Not about my kids walking. But about the awesome training material at Excel Tutorials page. Tell your friends or colleagues by dropping an email or sharing the URL. Just copy paste the below line.

It's fun when they start walking. Although, you've got 2....be prepared for double the "OH MY GOD STOP HIM/HER FROM DOING X" moments.

  2. Chad says:

Congrats on the first steps Chandoo, enjoy these very very special moments. (My daughter is 15 months old...)

  3. Drew Kesler says:

Hi Chandoo! Your twins look really cute! Congratulations on this new milestone 🙂 I agree with Dan, pretty soon you'll be running around after them. It may be nerve racking but I'm sure you'll still have fun!
Another thing, thank you so much for sharing this online training 🙂 Aside from being a great dad you are also a really good teacher.
I will be sharing the URL you provided. 🙂

  4. Christian says:

That is very Awesome Chandoo - Both you and Jo are obviously very proud.

It will be very interesting watching them grow as twins - whether they will learn quickly from seeing the other one do things they may not have thought of themselves, or out do each other in competition.

  5. Rajdeep says:

The moments of parenting when words are not enough! Congrats Nakshatra and Nishanth now you can ask Chandoo how many steps to walk before we post in your blog! Happy parenting Jo and Chandoo.

  6. Pallavi says:

    Hey Chandoo,
I recently found your website and it has been very very helpful - Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge.
I would like to bring to your notice that the two of the video links are swapped - the 'Printing Your Workbook' link opens the 'Keyboard Shortcuts' video and vice versa.
Keep up the great work and happy parenting!

  7. Chandoo says:

@Dan... We are already there. Last night we were both amazed and worried that our daughter is standing on her own and walking randomly only to fall down every 10 steps.

@Chad... Thank you so much. You must be enjoying as your daughter tries to speak and run...

    @Drew and Raj : Thanks 🙂

@Pallavi: Thank you so much for pointing out the mistake. I fixed it now 🙂

  8. Suma says:

Congrats on the baby steps!!! it just means they were handful before now they have just got out of hand. The excel baby steps are very thoughtfully put up, could we have something similar in excel macros please?

  9. Sundeep says:

Congrats - now they take over the house 🙂 The next big milestone will be talking..watch out. Once again thanks for the excel blog. Wish I had time to follow to follow and remember the info on your blog.

    Cheers!

That was so cute. Proud parents eh!

  11. Lee E. says:

    Hi Chandoo,

Now with your twins walking, methinks that you might not have as much time to record these videos! 🙂 And just wait until you leave your laptop unattended!

But congratulations on this special moment in your family's life.

I had previously signed up for your original Excel school but decided to skim through these beginner videos to see whether any of my colleagues could use them, and I was impressed with how you moved from very simple topics in the first few videos and then moved towards more complex subjects. This progression is just enough to make people curious, then eager (for more), then dangerous, and finally "awesome". 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to produce them, but there is one video you might want to correct, however.

The audio and video are out of sync in Video #3, Writing Simple Formulas in Excel, and this occurs whether watching it embedded or from within YouTube (and with all resolutions). I immediately thought something was wrong when your voice sounded lower than it normally does - and I should know after listening to you for over 22 hours during Excel school! 🙂 I believe your audio was compressed somehow because it lags behind the video by about 10-15 seconds.

  12. Lee E. says:

@Chandoo: Correction - it's Video #4 (Writing Simple Formulas in Excel), not #3 as I wrote above.
