Serial Numbers Required - Data having merged cells

Khalid NGO

Hello everyone,
Greetings of the day...

I am uploading a sample sheet with some data. (actual sheet is little bigger)

I need a formula in Column A to get serial numbers (1,2,3,4,and so on...)
You can see the Column A having merged cells and they are not even identical.

Simply putting =A4+1 in A12 is not a good idea :(

Any help on this will be highly appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Khalid,

In the situation, where you don't have fix number of merged cells it is not possible to have a formula in A4 which you can drag down and auto fill the numbers.

Merged cells are a big pain.

Nothing to do with both :(

I'll again go with my bad idea :)

Thanks SM Sir for response.

Hi,

why not take help of column b, where you have some invoice number:

=COUNTA(INDIRECT(CONCATENATE("B1:B"&ROW())))-1

you can have the same formula in all the cells of column A, as soon as you enter invoice number it will pick up the next s no.

Thank you Parsad,
Your formula seems to be working on identical merged cells, and its giving correct Sr. Nos. (manageable for me)

Learnt something new.
