Worksheet Level Macros Never Seem to Work- Why???

I often use macros pasted into my personal workbook via Visual Basic, but whenever I've tried to put code directly into a worksheet, i.e. right clicking a worksheet and selecting "View Code," they never work. Is there a setting somewhere that keeps this from working?

Thank you for your response, but I really don't think it's bad code. I've tried a number of different ones over the years, and from reputable sources, but none have done anything, not even an error. I'm sorry I don't have an example. I just wondered if there was a magic checkbox somewhere that needed to be checked.
